FOaMO Flox

Tite foam, gesso, heavy acrylic medium, flocking fiber,
30″ x22″ x10″, 2021

Part of the FOaMO series, ‘Flox’ is created with an experimental technique of fabric mold making I developed, resulting in balloon-like, muppet adjacent soft sculptures.
As a Dutch person living in Texas, my first encounter with many of the animals of the FOaMO series was at the side of the road as roadkill. The contradiction of the ‘awe’ I felt being able to see these seemingly peacefully sleeping animals from up close and the gore and upset connected to them informed the works’ feel.
