Housepanther

I think of ‘Housepanther’ as the catch of my hunt that day.
I want to highlight this work since it’s been a constant presence in my studio since its creation—the very first one of its kind.
It’s a relief tapestry composed of two wax resist-dyed fabrics. Two patterns are combined, almost unaware of each other; they meet in a third pattern created with a technique inspired by quilting.
The permeated areas push and pull the entire tapestry creating a pelt-like effect.

Of course, the lined paper has a function; Wikipedia states it helps users keep their writing or drawing consistent with a predetermined set of rules. It’s red and blue, dull in the finish as if pretending not to be there.
And in a way, it’s not. It passes by our daily gaze, blending in as mundane and usual.

Did you notice how strangely specific lined paper is?
